Quality inspection from battery material to finished module
ZEISS Industrial Quality Solutions is the industrial metrology and quality-inspection division of ZEISS. Its portfolio spans electron and light microscopy, industrial computed tomography and X-ray, coordinate measuring machines and optical 3D systems, tied together by inspection software. Battery production runs through most of it: microstructure analysis of cathode and anode materials, technical cleanliness and burr inspection after electrode cutting, X-ray checks on electrode overhang and weld quality in finished cells, and CT inspection of assembled modules and battery trays.

Stationary energy storage built from vehicle cells and batteries
Mercedes-Benz Energy GmbH, a subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz AG, has been developing stationary energy storage systems based on automotive battery modules since 2016. Vehicle batteries are repurposed as stationary storage — extending their useful life and delaying recycling — in scalable systems for commercial and industrial sites, available either as in-house installations or as containerised Battery Energy Storage Systems.
